Fast, local viewing for whole-slide images
EOV is a modern, lightweight desktop viewer for pathology slides. Immediately open and inspect SVS, TIF, NDPI, MRXS, and other WSI formats directly from disk — no servers, no cloud, no setup.
Multi-Pane Layout
View and compare slides side by side in synchronized panes, each with independent zoom and navigation.

Hardware Acceleration
Smooth, responsive navigation and zooming powered by GPU-accelerated rendering. Configurable quality settings for optimal fidelity and performance on any hardware. CPU rendering is supported for maximum portability.

Highly Extensible
EOV features a flexible plugin system for custom tools, annotations, and integrations. As a prime example, see the official annotations plugin!

Built for
EOV is a small utility with a surgical focus: a fast, reliable, and user-friendly desktop viewer for whole-slide images. It is designed to fit into existing workflows and complement more robust, institution-scale tools. When you have a WSI file locally on your machine and just want to view it, EOV is here to help.
Researchers
Inspect whole-slide images on your workstation without extraneous infrastructure.
Developers
Build and debug pathology tooling with a fast, standalone viewer on your desktop.
Pathology-adjacent teams
Review slides without standing up servers or navigating complex deployments.
Anyone with WSI files
Open your slides. That's it! No accounts, no setup, no friction.
Supported formats
EOV opens pyramid-based whole-slide image files via OpenSlide. If OpenSlide supports a format on your system, EOV can load it.
Get EOV
Prebuilt binaries are available from GitHub Releases. Download, extract, run. Both x86 and ARM builds are available for all platforms. Use it anywhere!
Open source. Always.
EOV is open-source and part of the broader Eosin ecosystem. It is intentionally narrow in scope — a desktop viewer that complements heavier tooling. No "license file" woes, no telemetry, and no barriers to use or contribution. Just fast, local viewing for whole-slide images, built by and for the community.
